AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY APPROVES EXTENDED READING HOURS AND SECURITY MEASURES FOR 2025/2026 SECOND SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS
The Management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has approved several measures to address students’ concerns about access to classrooms and lecture theatres, transportation, and security ahead of the Second Semester 2025/2026 examinations, which commence on Monday, September 14, 2026.
Management noted that some students in Phase II have been forced to walk long distances to find alternative places to study. To address this concern, the university has approved the following arrangements.
1. CLASSROOMS AND LECTURE THEATRES TO OPEN FOR STUDY
Classrooms and lecture theatres will be available for students to study from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight throughout the examination period.
2. LIGHTING AND MAINTENANCE OF FACILITIES
Adequate lighting will be provided in classrooms and lecture theatres.
The Director of PP&MS has been directed to inspect the facilities and ensure that faulty bulbs, switches, and other essential fittings are repaired or replaced where necessary.
3. RESPONSIBILITY OF FACULTIES AND DEPARTMENTS
Deans and Heads of Departments are expected to ensure that classrooms under their faculties and departments are opened for students.
They are also required to promptly address dead bulbs, faulty switches, and other minor defects to create a conducive environment for studying.
4. INCREASED SECURITY
Security presence will be strengthened around walkways, classrooms, lecture theatres, and other designated reading areas, especially at night.
5. ROLE OF STUDENT LEADERS
Student leaders are expected to work with the relevant university authorities to ensure that classrooms and lecture theatres are opened and properly secured.
They will also assist in promoting responsible use of the facilities and reporting issues that require attention.
6. PROTECTION OF UNIVERSITY PROPERTY
Management stated that the decision to open the classrooms and lecture theatres is in the interest and welfare of students.
Students are therefore advised to protect the facilities provided. Destruction, vandalism, theft, or removal of chairs, bulbs, switches, electrical fittings, and other university property will not be tolerated.
The continued availability of these reading spaces will depend on students’ responsible use and protection of the facilities.
7. METAL SCANNERS AND EXAMINATION SECURITY
The university has procured an adequate number of handheld metal scanners for use during the examinations.
Students are strongly advised not to take mobile phones or other prohibited electronic devices into examination venues. They are encouraged to leave their phones in their hostels or other safe locations before proceeding to the examination halls.
Possession or use of prohibited devices during examinations may attract serious disciplinary action, including rustication or withdrawal of admission, in line with university regulations.
8. CBT EXAMINATIONS AND TRANSPORTATION
The CBT examinations will take place at:
- The CBT Centre opposite the Sports Complex
- The DLC CBT Centre in Phase II
Transportation support will be provided to facilitate students’ movement to and from the CBT venues.
Buses will operate from the ACENPEE Building, opposite the College of Medical Sciences, to the CBT Centre opposite the Sports Complex.
Pick-up points to Phase II will be at the ABU Press/ICSA-Ramat Halls Roundabout.
A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
Management has reaffirmed its commitment to providing students with a safe, secure, and conducive environment for examination preparation and participation.
Students are also expected to reciprocate these efforts by protecting university property, observing security regulations, and using classrooms and lecture theatres responsibly.
Students are encouraged to make full use of the designated reading spaces provided on campus and work together with the university authorities to ensure a peaceful, safe, and successful examination period.
