AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSITY (AKSU) BANS SIGN-OUT ACTIVITIES AND ROWDY CELEBRATIONS AFTER EXAMINATIONS
Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), through its Directorate of Students’ Affairs, has banned sign-out activities and other rowdy engagements by students following the completion of their examinations.
The directive was contained in a notice dated September 18, 2026, issued by the Students’ Affairs Division and addressed to the entire student body.
AKSU BANS ROWDY SIGN-OUT ACTIVITIES
According to the notice, several activities commonly associated with post-examination celebrations have been strictly prohibited with immediate effect.
The banned activities include:
- Playing of loud music
- Bonfires
- Car convoys
- Vandalism
- Cult parades
- Rough or stunt driving
- Other unwholesome activities within the university campus
The university stated that the directive applies to activities carried out after the last examinations.
REASON FOR THE BAN
Akwa Ibom State University explained that the restriction is aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of students and members of the university community.
The university also stated that the measure is intended to prevent breaches of peace and injuries while maintaining the dignity and decorum expected of university graduates.
MODEST CELEBRATIONS MAY BE PERMITTED
Despite the ban on rowdy activities, the university clarified that modest celebrations may still be permitted.
Activities such as group photographs and sign-on endorsements may be allowed, provided they are conducted in a highly responsible manner and do not disrupt the peace or safety of the university community.
Students are therefore expected to conduct any permitted celebrations responsibly and within the limits set by the university.
DEFAULTERS TO FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTION
Akwa Ibom State University warned that students, departments, associations or groups found organizing or participating in any of the prohibited activities will face serious disciplinary action.
The university has also directed campus security personnel and other relevant security agencies to enforce the policy.
According to the notice, defaulters may be arrested where necessary.
DEPARTMENTS ASKED TO GUIDE STUDENTS
Heads of departments have been advised to properly guide their students on the directive and ensure that they are aware of the restrictions.
Students are therefore advised to take note of the new directive and avoid activities that could result in disciplinary action or compromise the safety of members of the university community.
