BAYERO UNIVERSITY, KANO SENATE APPROVES SPECIAL RESIT EXAMINATIONS FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has approved the conduct of special resit examinations for eligible students, particularly final-year and spill-over students who meet the stipulated requirements.
The decision was reached at the 438th meeting of the University Senate held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following consideration of the report submitted by the Committee on Special Resit Examinations.
SENATE APPROVES SPECIAL RESIT EXAMINATIONS
The Committee on Special Resit Examinations examined the prospects, necessity, implementation strategies, and modalities for introducing special resit examinations at the university.
Following its deliberations, Senate approved that special resit examinations should be conducted at the end of the academic session and subsequently whenever the need arises.
The examinations are intended to provide qualifying students with an additional opportunity to clear outstanding taught courses and make progress towards completing their academic programmes.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Under the conditions approved by Senate, a student must meet the following requirements to qualify:
- The student must have registered for the relevant taught course.
- The student must have attempted the course during a regular examination.
- The student must have failed the course in the regular examination.
In addition, the number of failed courses must fall within the limits approved for each category of student.
Final-Year Students
A final-year student must have failed not more than three courses to be eligible for the special resit examination.
Spill-Over Students
A spill-over student must have failed not more than five courses to qualify.
PURPOSE OF THE SPECIAL RESIT EXAMINATION
The approved arrangement is expected to assist eligible students in clearing their outstanding taught courses and progressing towards the completion of their academic programmes.
However, participation in the special resit examination will remain subject to the conditions, procedures, and implementation guidelines approved by the University Senate.
Students who believe they meet the eligibility requirements are advised to await further official information from their faculties, departments, or the university management regarding the examination schedule, registration process, and other necessary arrangements.
