AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY (ABU) OPENS 2026/2027 ADMISSION FOR INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has invited applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the full-time programmes of its Institute of Education for the 2026/2027 academic session.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND PROGRAMME DURATION

1. Diploma in Adult Education and Community Development (ACD)

Applicants must possess any of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE O’ Level, including English Language.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes, including English Language.

Duration: 2 semesters
Tuition fee: ₦37,500 per session.

2. Higher Diploma in Adult Education and Community Development (HAC)

Applicants must possess any of the following:

• Diploma in Adult Education and Community Development.
  • Higher Certificate in Education (HCE).
  • Any other diploma recognised by the university.

3. Diploma in Arabic Language Education (ALE)

Applicants must possess any of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE O’ Level, including Arabic and English Language.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes, including Arabic and English Language.
  • Senior Junior School (SJS) Certificate with four credit passes, including Arabic and English Language.

Duration: 4 semesters
Tuition fee: ₦37,500 per session.

4. Diploma in Christian Religious Education (CRE)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE, including Christian Religious Studies and English Language.
  • At least four merit passes in Grade II Teachers’ Certificate, including Christian Religious Studies and English Language.

Duration: 4 semesters
Tuition fee: ₦37,500 per session.

5. Diploma in English Language Education (ELE)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE, including English Language.
  • At least four merit passes in Grade II Teachers’ Certificate, including English Language.

Duration: 4 semesters

6. Diploma in Guidance and Counselling Education (GCE)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE, including English Language.
  • At least four merit passes in Grade II Teachers’ Certificate, including English Language.

7. Diploma in Hausa Language Education (HED)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE O’ Level, including Hausa and English Language.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes, including Hausa and English Language.

8. Diploma in Islamic Studies Education (ISE)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/GCE O’ Level, including English Language and Islamic Studies.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes, including English Language and Islamic Studies.

Duration: 4 semesters
Tuition fee: ₦37,500 per session.

9. Diploma in Integrated Science Education (ISC)

Applicants must possess any of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE, NECO, GCE or SAISC O’ Level Science, including Mathematics.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes in Science, including English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates must also have at least two basic science subjects from Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Health Science, General Science or Integrated Science.

10. Diploma in Library and Information Science (LIS)

Applicants must possess either of the following:

• At least four credit passes in SSCE/NECO/GCE O’ Level, including English Language.
  • Grade II Teachers’ Certificate with at least four merit passes, including English Language.
