ELIZADE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES PLANS TO ESTABLISH MEDICAL SCHOOL

The management of Elizade University has intensified preparations toward the establishment of a Medical School as part of efforts to strengthen medical education and healthcare manpower development in Nigeria.

The university recently hosted the third edition of its Global Town Hall Meeting on the proposed Medical School project, attracting medical professionals, academic stakeholders, diaspora experts, and development partners from across the globe.

GLOBAL MEDICAL EXPERTS PLEDGE SUPPORT

Speaking during the Town Hall engagement, the Convener of the initiative, Dr. Oluropo Ojo, disclosed that the institution has already secured the support of several volunteer medical professionals in the diaspora.

According to him, many of these experts have expressed willingness to provide:

• Specialist medical training
• Academic mentorship
• Professional healthcare services
• Technical support

at no cost once the Medical School begins operation.

Dr. Ojo further revealed that potential donors and international partners have also indicated readiness to provide critical medical equipment immediately the programme receives final approval.

VICE-CHANCELLOR COMMENDS FOUNDER’S VISION

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Philip Oguntunde, praised the Founder of the institution, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, for what he described as a consistent and selfless investment in educational development.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the proposed Medical School will:

• Expand the university’s academic capacity
• Strengthen healthcare training
• Improve research opportunities
• Contribute significantly to Nigeria’s healthcare sector

He added that the university community is optimistic and fully prepared for the take-off of the programme.

REGULATORY & CURRICULUM PREPARATIONS IN ADVANCED STAGE

Providing updates on regulatory readiness, the Registrar, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, confirmed that:

• The Medical School curriculum has already been fully developed
• Internal reviews are currently ongoing
• Preparations are in advanced stages for the National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification exercise

This verification process is one of the key requirements for the approval of new medical programmes in Nigerian universities.

STATE-OF-THE-ART MEDICAL FACILITIES ALREADY AVAILABLE

The Chief Medical Director of the University Medical Centre, Dr. Lanre Olatunde, expressed confidence in the institution’s infrastructural readiness.

According to him, the university already possesses:

• Modern medical laboratories
• Advanced diagnostic equipment
• Contemporary clinical facilities
• Specialized healthcare technologies

He noted that some of the available equipment are rarely found in many medical institutions across Nigeria, positioning the university favourably for the commencement of the MBBS programme.

BOOST FOR ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAMMES

Also speaking at the event, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Alice Ogundele, described the proposed Medical School as a transformative development for the university.

She explained that the initiative will:

• Strengthen existing Nursing and Allied Health programmes
• Expand healthcare training opportunities
• Improve interdisciplinary medical education
• Enhance research and professional collaborations
