Southern Delta University (SDU), formerly known as the Delta State University of Science and Technology, has officially released the schedule of activities for its maiden convocation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session. This historic announcement, detailed in a bulletin issued on Monday, February 9, 2026, represents a significant transition for the institution as it prepares to celebrate its first graduating class under its current name. The week-long series of events is designed to showcase the academic, athletic, and innovative spirit of the university, commencing on Sunday, February 22, 2026, and concluding on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
The festivities begin with a spiritual foundation on Sunday, February 22, with a church service held at the Annunciation Catholic Church, SDU, Ozoro, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. Following the spiritual opening, the university community will transition to the athletic field on Monday, February 23, for a novelty match at the SDU Stadium, scheduled between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm. On Tuesday, February 24, the administrative leadership will take center stage as the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference is held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to discuss the university's achievements and future trajectory.
Intellectual discourse continues on Wednesday, February 25, with the Convocation Lecture taking place between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. This serves as a prelude to the Science, Technology, and Innovation Exhibition scheduled for Thursday, February 26, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, which highlights the institution's core focus on scientific advancement. The pinnacle of the week is the main convocation ceremony on Friday, February 27, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, featuring the formal award of prizes and the commissioning of various university projects.
