The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, through its College of Postgraduate Studies (CPGS), has approved a 50 per cent tuition fee waiver for postgraduate students who have exceeded the maximum duration of their programmes.

The measure, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, is intended to ease the financial burden on affected students and encourage them to complete their studies within the stipulated period.

Amnesty Approved by Governing Authorities

According to an internal memorandum issued by the College of Postgraduate Studies and based on decisions reached at the University's 102nd Board Meeting held on March 24, 2026, the amnesty programme provides substantial relief to eligible students by reducing outstanding tuition obligations.

The waiver applies exclusively to tuition fees and does not cover other charges or levies.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the amnesty, postgraduate students must have paid all school fees due up to the expiration of the normal duration of their programmes.

Students who have accumulated tuition arrears during their period of overstay will only be required to pay 50 per cent of the outstanding tuition fees for those additional years.

Deadline for Beneficiaries

The University stated that the amnesty window will remain open until the end of the 2025/2026 academic session. Eligible students have therefore been urged to take advantage of the opportunity and regularise their academic status before the deadline expires.

Commitment to Postgraduate Completion

The initiative underscores UNIZIK's commitment to supporting postgraduate students and ensuring that financial challenges do not prevent candidates from completing their academic programmes.

The College of Postgraduate Studies recently opened applications for the 2026/2027 postgraduate session, offering full-time, part-time and online study options for prospective candidates.

Students seeking further information are advised to contact the College of Postgraduate Studies or visit the official UNIZIK website for updates and guidelines.
