The management of Northwest University Kano (NWUK) has dismissed a viral video and social media reports alleging that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had an academic deficiency and approached the university to resolve the alleged issue.

The university described the claims as false, baseless and misleading, urging members of the public and the university community to disregard the information being circulated online.

NWUK EXPLAINS THE VIRAL VIDEO

In a disclaimer dated 10th August 2026, the management of Northwest University Kano explained that the video being circulated online was originally recorded during a public lecture organised by the International Humanitarian Law Society at the university.

According to the institution, some individuals subsequently attached misleading write-ups to the video and began circulating it across social media platforms.

The university stated that the video has been taken out of context and does not support the claims being made alongside it.

UNIVERSITY DENIES EMIR HAD ACADEMIC DEFICIENCY

Northwest University Kano specifically denied claims that the Emir of Kano had a carry-over or any academic deficiency which required him to approach the institution for resolution.

The management described the allegation as false and stated that it completely distances itself from the video, accompanying write-ups and claims contained in the publications.

The university therefore urged members of the public not to attach credibility to the reports being circulated online.

NWUK WARNS AGAINST FALSE AND DEFAMATORY CONTENT

The university further warned individuals involved in creating or circulating what it described as false and defamatory content.

According to the management, individuals responsible for such content may be reported to the relevant authorities and could face prosecution in accordance with applicable laws.

The warning comes as the university seeks to prevent the spread of misleading information concerning the institution and individuals associated with it.
