PLATEAU STATE UNIVERSITY ASUU SUSPENDS STRIKE, DIRECTS LECTURERS TO RESUME ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU) Branch, has announced the suspension of its ongoing strike action following an Emergency Congress Meeting held on 15th September 2026 in Jos.
The meeting was held following a directive from the Zone and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union to review the issues that led to the declaration of the strike on 26th August 2026.
After reviewing the developments and an agreement reached between the Plateau State Government and the Union, Congress resolved to suspend the strike.
AGREEMENT BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND ASUU
The negotiation meeting between the State Government and ASUU was held at the Conference Hall of the Head of Service.
The Government negotiation team was headed by the Head of Service, Mr. Steven Pam Gadong, while the Union's team was led by the Zonal Coordinator, Professor Aku Timothy Namo.
According to the statement, the parties reached a reasonable conclusion on the Union's six-point charter of demands.
SIX KEY DEMANDS
The issues considered in the agreement include:
- Commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme.
- Full implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Agreement and payment of arrears with effect from January 2026.
- Provision of safe and secure staff quarters.
- Construction of trenches around the perimeter fence.
- Cessation of the intimidation of Union leaders, as contained in the letter to Congress dated 18th May 2026 through the Registrar.
- Payment of 22 months' arrears of the 25%/35% wage award.
STRIKE SUSPENDED EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 16
Following the review of the agreement, the ASUU-PLASU Congress resolved to suspend the strike action with effect from 12:00 midnight on Wednesday, 16th September 2026.
With the suspension, members of the Union have been directed to resume all academic activities.
This means academic activities at Plateau State University are expected to continue following the suspension of the industrial action.

The Plateau State University branch of ASUU appreciated members of the public for their understanding and support throughout the period of the strike.
The development brings an end to the strike declared by the Union on 26th August 2026, following the agreement reached between the Union and the Plateau State Government on the issues contained in the six-point charter of demands.
