The Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has officially cancelled the ongoing process for the appointment of a new Registrar and announced plans to re-advertise the vacant position.

The decision was reached by the University's Governing Council during a special meeting held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, after considering the report submitted by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

Appointment Process Cancelled

According to an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Yakubu F. Ayuba, the recruitment exercise, which commenced on June 10, 2026, could not be concluded due to a hitch that the Council said had the potential to compromise the integrity of both the selection process and the University.

As a result, the Governing Council resolved to cancel the entire exercise and begin a fresh recruitment process by re-advertising the position.

The University stated that the appointment of a substantive Registrar is expected to be concluded within three months after the fresh advertisement.

Incumbent Registrar's Tenure Extended

To ensure the smooth running of the University's administrative activities during the transition period, the Governing Council has approved a three-month extension of the tenure of the current Registrar.

The extension will run from August 29 to November 28, 2026, providing sufficient time for the new appointment process to be completed.

Shortlisted Candidates Will Not Reapply

The University also clarified that applicants who had already been shortlisted and invited for interviews under the cancelled exercise will not be required to submit fresh applications when the position is re-advertised.

This means previously shortlisted candidates will remain eligible for consideration during the renewed appointment process.

Council Assures Transparent Process

The Governing Council assured members of the University community that the fresh recruitment exercise will strictly follow due process to guarantee transparency, fairness and credibility.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the most qualified candidate emerges as the next substantive Registrar of Plateau State University.
