UNIVERSITY OF BENIN ANNOUNCES POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION FOR 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially announced the commencement of applications for admission into its Postgraduate Programmes for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.
The institution invites suitably qualified candidates from across Nigeria and beyond to apply for admission into various postgraduate courses leading to the award of:
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
- Master’s Degree (M.Sc., M.A., MBA, etc.)
- Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
- Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
These programmes are available across different Schools, Faculties, Institutes, and Centres within the University of Benin.
GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for admission into the postgraduate programmes of the University of Benin, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- O’Level Requirements
Applicants must possess at least five (5) credit passes in WASC, NECO, GCE, or their equivalent examinations.

Alternatively, candidates may have:- Four (4) O’Level credit passes plus OND (excluding pass grade)
- NCE qualification
- IJMB or Advanced Level passes
- Any other recognized equivalent qualification
- Degree Requirements
- Candidates with a Pass Degree or Diploma are NOT eligible for admission into postgraduate programmes.
- Holders of Third Class degrees must first obtain a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) before qualifying for Master’s programmes.
- Master’s Degree Requirement for M.Phil.
Candidates who obtained a Master’s degree with a Weighted Average Score (WAS) of 55%–59% may be considered for admission into the M.Phil. programme in the first instance. - Ph.D. Admission Requirements
To qualify for Ph.D. admission:- Candidates must have a Master’s degree with a minimum weighted average score of 60%.
- Candidates from other universities may be required to take and pass additional prerequisite courses offered by UNIBEN with a minimum score of 60%.
- NYSC Requirement
All applicants must possess at least one of the following:- NYSC Discharge Certificate
- NYSC Exemption Certificate
- NYSC Exclusion Certificate
Without this, candidates will not be cleared for postgraduate admission.
REFEREE REPORT REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to print and complete referee forms from the application portal. These forms must be submitted directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies.
Please note that applications without referee reports will NOT be processed.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
Interested candidates are required to apply online through the University of Benin postgraduate portal.
Application Fee
- ₦22,000 (Non-refundable)
- Payment is made using VERVE or MASTER ATM cards

- Submit the form online
- Print out the application and referee forms from the portal
Applicants are strongly advised to ensure all information provided is correct before submission, as incomplete or incorrect applications will not be considered.
CLOSING DATE
All applications must be completed on or before 31st December, 2026.
Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Successful candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance fee before clearance.
Acceptance Fee: ₦60,000.00
Payment of the acceptance fee is compulsory before candidates can be officially cleared for admission.
