University of Calabar (UNICAL): Emergency Final Reopening of Course Registration Portal
Share

The Management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced an emergency, time-bound reopening of the course registration portal. This decision, reached during the Core Management meeting on Monday, 16th February 2026, serves as a final window for students who have already paid their school charges but encountered technical or administrative difficulties in finalizing their course enrollment.

According to Memo UC/REG/CIR/138, signed by the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka I. Icha, the portal is strictly open until 12:00 midnight on Tuesday, 17th February 2026. This 24-hour reprieve is a direct response to appeals presented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on behalf of the affected students.

Critical Restrictions and Deadlines

It is important to note that this reopening is highly specific in scope. Students must be aware of the following parameters to avoid wasted efforts:

Portal Scope: Only the Course Registration Portal is accessible.

Charges Portal: The School Charges/Payment Portal remains closed. If you have not paid your fees by this date, you will not be able to utilize this registration window.

Finality: This is explicitly described as the final reopening. No further extensions are expected, given that general examinations for most levels are already scheduled to commence as of Monday, 16th February 2026.

Administrative Advice: Suspension of Studies

The University Management has issued a stern advisory for those unable to meet this final deadline. If a student fails to complete their course registration by the midnight deadline on February 17, they are officially advised to apply for a suspension of studies for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Sitting for examinations without valid course registration is a violation of university regulations and can lead to the nullification of results. Suspending studies allows a student to preserve their admission status for the subsequent session without incurring academic penalties for "unregistered" semesters.

Immediate Action Steps for Affected Students
If you have already paid your fees but have not registered your courses, follow these steps immediately:

Access the Portal: Log in to portal.unical.edu.ng using your matriculation number or JAMB registration number.

Verify Fee Payment: Ensure your fee confirmation order number is active and verified by the system.

Register Courses: Select all required core and elective courses for the current semester and click "Submit."

Print Evidence: Immediately print your Course Registration Slip. This document is your only proof of registration and will be required at the examination halls.

The Registrar has urged all students to treat this as a matter of extreme urgency. For technical assistance, students may contact the ICT Help Desk located at the Graduate School or the Directorate of Academic Planning.
