YAKUBU GOWON UNIVERSITY, ABUJA OPENS 2026/2027 PROFESSIONAL DOCTORATE, MASTER’S AND PGD ADMISSION

The University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, has announced the commencement of applications for admission into its Professional Doctorate, Master’s and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes at the Abuja Leadership Centre for the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The Abuja Leadership Centre is a TETFund Centre of Excellence in Public Governance and Leadership, with postgraduate programmes covering areas including public governance, leadership, policy, strategic studies and military studies.

AVAILABLE PROGRAMMES

PROFESSIONAL DOCTORATE PROGRAMMES

Interested candidates can apply for:

  • Doctorate in Public Governance and Leadership (DPGL)
  • Doctorate in Policy and Strategic Studies (DPSS)
  • Doctorate in Military Studies (DMS)

MASTER’S PROGRAMMES

The available Master’s programmes are:

  • Master’s in Public Governance and Leadership (MPGL)
  • Master’s in Policy and Strategic Studies (MPSS)
  • Master’s in Military Studies (MMS)

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

Applicants can also apply for:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Public Governance and Leadership (PGDPGL)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Policy and Strategic Studies (PGDPSS)

The Centre’s published programme information also confirms postgraduate offerings in public governance and leadership, policy and strategic studies, and military studies.

PROFESSIONAL DOCTORATE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates seeking admission into the Professional Doctorate programmes are expected to meet the University’s matriculation requirements.

Applicants are required to possess:

  • A relevant Master’s degree from a recognised and accredited university.
  • An NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
  • A relevant first degree, with the stated minimum academic requirements.
  • The required postgraduate academic standing, subject to the programme requirements.

Candidates with relevant professional experience and scholarly achievements may also be considered where applicable.

MASTER’S ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates applying for the Master’s programmes must meet the University’s matriculation requirements and possess a relevant first degree.

A minimum CGPA of 2.50, where applicable, is stated for consideration.

Applicants should also note that a screening exercise will form part of the admission process.

The Abuja Leadership Centre's published requirements also indicate that candidates for its Master’s programmes may be required to have five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, alongside an appropriate Bachelor’s degree or HND qualification.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS

Candidates applying for the Postgraduate Diploma programmes are expected to possess at least five O’Level credits in WAEC, NECO or GCE Ordinary Level, including:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics

Applicants with relevant Bachelor’s degrees, HND qualifications, Advanced Diplomas or Postgraduate Diplomas may also be considered, subject to the specific admission requirements.

  • Application Closes: Monday, 26th October 2026
  • Application Fee: ₦250,000 non-refundable
