ABUBAKAR TATARI ALI POLYTECHNIC (ATAPOLY) SECURES NBTE APPROVAL TO COMMENCE ND IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAPOLY), Bauchi, has received approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to commence a National Diploma (ND) programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval marks a major milestone for the Polytechnic as it expands its academic offerings to meet the growing demand for technology-driven education and digital skills in Nigeria.
According to the NBTE approval, ATAPOLY was ranked first among 41 institutions approved to offer the National Diploma in Artificial Intelligence programme.
The approval followed a successful resource verification exercise, during which the Board assessed the institution's readiness based on the availability of qualified academic staff, technologists, modern laboratories and other essential learning facilities.
Programme Backed by Modern AI Facilities
The NBTE acknowledged that the Polytechnic possesses the required human and physical resources needed to run the programme effectively. These include:
- Qualified lecturers and technologists
- Artificial Intelligence laboratories
- Programming and digital systems laboratories
- Microcontroller laboratories
- Practical project facilities
In addition, the Board approved an initial admission quota of 80 students under Stream A for the programme.

The newly approved programme is designed to equip students with practical and industry-relevant knowledge in emerging digital technologies.
