OAU ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF HOSTEL STAY FOR STUDENTS ON STATUTORY ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced that students currently engaged in statutory academic activities outside the regular academic calendar may apply for an extension of their stay in the university halls of residence.
According to the notice, the extension applies only to students participating in officially recognized academic programmes such as:
- Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES)
- Students Work Experience Programme (SWEP)
- Teaching Practice
- College Examinations
- Farm Internship
- Other approved statutory academic activities
Submission of Endorsed Lists
Departments, Faculties, and relevant academic units are required to submit collated lists of eligible students to the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) on or before Tuesday, 15th September, 2026.
The lists must be duly endorsed by the appropriate University authority, such as:
- Dean of Faculty
- Director of SIWES
- Or any other authorized University officer, as applicable
Conditions for Hostel Extension
The University stated that the extension of hostel accommodation is subject to the following conditions:
- Only students whose names appear on the officially endorsed lists and who are currently residing in the University hostels will be considered.
- Male students approved for the extension will be accommodated in Fajuyi Hall of Residence (Main Blocks).
- Female students will be accommodated in Akintola Hall of Residence throughout the extension period.
Accommodation Fee
Each approved student is required to pay an accommodation fee of ₦10,000 through the University's Remita payment platform.
After payment, students must:
- Submit the original University receipt to the Division of Student Affairs (DSA).
- Submit a photocopy of the receipt to their allocated Hall of Residence.
Important Notice
Students granted the extension are advised that the arrangement is temporary. All beneficiaries are expected to vacate the halls of residence one week before the commencement of the new academic session to allow for hostel preparations ahead of the resumption of returning and newly admitted students.
The University urged all affected students and academic units to comply with the directive and ensure timely submission of the required documentation.
