The Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced tuition fee exemptions, Vice-Chancellor’s scholarships and special financial grants for newly admitted students under selected faculties and academic programmes.

The announcement was contained in an official notice dated October 19, 2026, and signed by the University Registrar, Mfon S. Ukpabio, MNIM.

According to the notice, the financial support schemes are intended to assist eligible students by reducing their financial burden and supporting access to university education.

The university outlined three major categories of tuition exemptions, scholarships and financial grants for eligible students.

1. TUITION FEE EXEMPTION FOR FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE STUDENTS

Under the first category, all newly admitted students in the Faculty of Agriculture at Akwa Ibom State University will be exempted from paying tuition fees.

However, the exemption applies specifically to tuition fees. Students in the faculty will still be required to pay all applicable sundry charges.

Newly admitted Agriculture students are therefore advised to take note of the distinction between tuition fees and other charges payable to the university.

2. TUITION FEE EXEMPTION AND VICE-CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIPS

The university also announced tuition fee exemptions and Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for newly admitted students in five selected academic programmes.

The programmes are:

  1. French
    1. History
    2. Mathematics
    3. Music
    4. Statistics

According to the announcement, students admitted into these programmes will benefit from tuition fee exemptions, while the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships will cover all applicable sundry charges.

This means that eligible newly admitted students in the listed programmes will receive support covering both tuition fees and applicable sundry charges under the scheme.

Prospective students considering any of these programmes may wish to obtain further details from the university’s Directorate of Admissions.

3. SPECIAL FINANCIAL GRANTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Akwa Ibom State University has also announced special financial grants for international students.

According to the notice, all international students will be entitled to the special grants.

However, the announcement does not specify the amount of the grants or provide further details about the application and disbursement procedures. Interested students are advised to contact the university for clarification on the applicable conditions.
