FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE APPOINTS PROF. SESAN PETER AYODEJI AS DEAN, SCHOOL OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, has approved the appointment of Professor Sesan Peter Ayodeji, FNSE, as the new Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).
The appointment, which takes effect from August 1, 2026, is for an initial tenure of two years and follows Professor Ayodeji's successful election by members of the School.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen postgraduate education, research development, and academic excellence at the institution.
An Accomplished Academic and Administrator
Professor Sesan Peter Ayodeji is a renowned Professor of Industrial and Production Engineering with over two decades of outstanding contributions to teaching, research, innovation, and university administration.
A proud alumnus of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Mechanical and Production Engineering from FUTA.
He joined the services of the University as a Graduate Assistant in 2000 and steadily rose through the academic ranks before attaining the rank of Professor in 2019.
Distinguished Record of Service
Throughout his academic career, Professor Ayodeji has held several important leadership positions within and outside FUTA.
He previously served as Sub-Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, where he played a key role in strengthening postgraduate administration and improving academic processes within the School. His outstanding contributions during that period earned him formal commendation from the University management.
Beyond FUTA, he served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at Achievers University, Owo, between 2021 and 2024, where he provided strategic leadership that contributed significantly to the growth and development of the College.
Research Excellence and Professional Recognition
Professor Ayodeji is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
His research interests cover several areas, including:
- Manufacturing Systems
- Industrial Engineering
- Automation
- Ergonomics
- Production Systems
- Engineering Design
He has published numerous scholarly articles in reputable journals, secured several research grants, developed patented inventions, and contributed innovative technologies that have received national and international recognition.

- 2025 FUTA Best Inventor of the Year Excellence and Productivity Award
- 2022 Nigeria Prize for Science, jointly awarded by Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG)
- Multiple TETFund and institutional research grants supporting engineering research and technological innovation.
Contribution to Postgraduate Education
Professor Ayodeji has supervised numerous Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master's, and Ph.D. students, many of whom have successfully completed their programmes.
He has also served as an external examiner and academic assessor for several universities within Nigeria and internationally, contributing immensely to postgraduate education and research capacity development.
His wealth of experience in postgraduate administration is expected to further enhance the quality of postgraduate programmes at FUTA.
New Responsibilities as Dean
As the new Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Ayodeji will provide strategic leadership in the administration of postgraduate programmes across the University.
His responsibilities will include promoting research excellence, strengthening quality assurance mechanisms, encouraging innovation, fostering academic collaborations, and enhancing the global competitiveness of FUTA's postgraduate programmes.
The University expressed confidence that his extensive academic, research, and administrative experience will further consolidate the institution's reputation as one of Nigeria's leading universities of technology.
