Justice Served: Kwara Teacher Demoted for Violent Attack on Female Corper

A teacher at a secondary school in Kwara State has faced disciplinary action for reportedly attacking a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

The corps member, whose identity remains undisclosed, was reportedly assaulted and had her clothes torn by a teacher, Mrs. Hamzat Fatima Nike, allegedly due to perceived disrespect.

The confrontation occurred last Thursday when the corps member arrived at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, seeking to obtain her clearance documentation.

According to an eyewitness, Mrs. Hamzat initiated the attack, damaging the corps member's NYSC white uniform, while another staff member joined in, administering additional slaps and verbal abuse.

In response to this incident, the NYSC management withdrew all corps members previously assigned to the institution pending a thorough investigation.

On Wednesday, a joint announcement from the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Teaching Service Commission's Executive Chairman, Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, confirmed the teacher's misconduct.

The official investigation panel determined that the teacher had violated multiple protocols, including engaging in physical altercation during work hours, using inappropriate language, showing insubordination, and disrespecting the national symbol represented by the NYSC uniform.

As punishment for breaching public service regulations, the teacher received a two-grade demotion.

The disciplinary measures also include mandatory counseling sessions and reassignment to a different school.

The government statement emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward such misconduct and expressed sincere remorse over the incident.

It also provided assurance to NYSC authorities that this incident was not representative of the state's values and promised to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
