LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT APPOINTS PROF. BADEJO AYODEJI OLAWUNMI AS NEW LASU VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Lagos State Government has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi (Nee Faji) as the new Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

The approval was granted by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the leadership of the institution.

Professor Badejo, a distinguished scholar in Guidance and Counselling, succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, whose five-year tenure as Vice-Chancellor has come to an end following her retirement from office.

Academic Background

Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi was born on August 4, 1962, and has built an impressive academic career in the field of education and counselling.

She holds:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG)
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (UNILAG)

Her appointment reflects the Lagos State Government's confidence in her academic competence, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing higher education.

New Leadership for LASU

As the new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Badejo is expected to provide strategic leadership that will sustain and build upon the achievements recorded during the administration of her predecessor.

The appointment was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, in a statement dated September 9, 2026.
