In a time when global peace and regional stability remain essential for national development, McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo in Ogun State, has announced plans to host its 2nd Inaugural Lecture, an important academic event that will highlight Nigeria’s contributions to international peacekeeping and regional security.

The lecture is expected to provide deep insights into Nigeria’s evolving role in promoting peace and stability across Africa and other parts of the world. It will also serve as a platform for intellectual discussions on how the country balances its national interests with international commitments in maintaining peace.

The Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, has formally invited members of the academic community, policymakers, students, security experts, and the general public to attend the event.

According to the announcement, the inaugural lecture will be delivered by Kenneth Chukwuemeka Nwoko, a professor and respected scholar, who will speak on the topic: “Nigeria’s Peacekeeping and Regional Security Engagements since 1960: Balancing National Interests and International Commitments.”

The lecture will examine Nigeria’s long-standing involvement in peacekeeping missions and regional security initiatives since the country gained independence in 1960. It is expected to explore the country’s contributions to conflict resolution, peace enforcement, and stability operations across Africa and beyond.

The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. prompt at the Stephen & Hannah Obaro Multi-Purpose Hall within McPherson University. Guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. ahead of the commencement of the lecture.

Inaugural lectures are an important tradition in universities, providing newly appointed or recognized professors the opportunity to present their research focus and academic perspectives to the university community and the public. Such events often stimulate scholarly discussions and contribute to intellectual growth within the academic environment.

The upcoming lecture at McPherson University is expected to bring together scholars, researchers, policymakers, security experts, students, and members of the public for an engaging and thought-provoking discourse on Nigeria’s strategic role in global peacekeeping and regional security initiatives.

Through this event, the university hopes to promote academic dialogue on security studies while also highlighting Nigeria’s continued commitment to peacebuilding and stability both within Africa and on the global stage.
