ABU Announces 2026 Advanced Certificate Courses in Procurement and Sustainability
The Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement Centre of Excellence (SPESSECE) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has announced a call for applications for its 2026 Advanced Certificate Courses aimed at strengthening professional capacity in procurement, environmental sustainability, and social development.
The programme is supported by the World Bank and will be conducted under Track B, targeting professionals working in government institutions, development projects, and the private sector. According to the centre, the courses are designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and professional skills required for effective procurement management and sustainable development practices.
According to the official training schedule released by the centre, the Advanced Certificate Course in Procurement Management will take place at the Abuja Centre from March 23 to April 10, 2026, with daily sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m.
In addition to the procurement course, SPESSECE will also offer training programmes in Sustainable Environmental Studies and Sustainable Social Development Studies. These courses are scheduled to run between April and June 2026 at training centres located in Abuja, Katsina, and Kano.
The programme will run for a period of three weeks, combining both theoretical learning and practical exposure. Participants will spend the first two weeks in classroom lectures, where they will be introduced to key concepts and professional practices in procurement, environmental sustainability, and social development. The final week will involve an industrial attachment, which will allow participants to gain practical experience and apply the knowledge acquired during the training.
SPESSECE further explained that the programme forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen professional competence and promote best practices in procurement and sustainable development within both public and private sector institutions.
The centre also stated that participants from the public sector will attend the programme tuition-free, as part of the capacity-building initiative supported by the World Bank. However, private sector participants will be required to pay a participation fee of ₦50,000 in order to take part in the training.

The training programme is open to a wide range of professionals involved in procurement and development-related activities. Eligible participants include accounting officers, chief executives of government institutions, procurement practitioners, members of tender boards, project managers, engineers, auditors, legal practitioners, and other professionals who play roles in procurement management and development projects.
