MOSHOOD ABIOLA POLYTECHNIC (MAPOLY) REAFFIRMS BAN ON OKADA OPERATIONS WITHIN CAMPUS
The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has reiterated its prohibition on the operation and movement of commercial motorcycles (popularly known as Okada) within the institution’s campus.
The decision, according to the Polytechnic, aligns with global best practices in campus security and safety management and has been reinforced due to rising concerns over theft of institutional property and other security-related incidents.
REASONS FOR THE BAN
The institution explained that the renewed enforcement of the ban is a proactive step aimed at:
- Enhancing the safety of students, staff, and visitors
- Preventing theft and loss of Polytechnic property
- Addressing increasing security threats, including reports of kidnapping and related criminal activities linked to motorcycle usage
PREVIOUS SECURITY MEASURES
Management recalled that an earlier directive had already prohibited:
- Entry of motorcycles into the campus
- Use of tinted vehicles
- Movement of unmarked vehicles within the institution
This has led to intensified security checks, including stop-and-search operations at the main gates and entry points.
ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
To ease movement within the campus, the Polytechnic has approved alternative transport options, including:
- Tricycles
- Intra-campus cab services
These services are expected to convey passengers from the main gate to different locations within the institution.
COMPLIANCE DIRECTIVE
All staff, students, visitors, and members of the public are strongly advised to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with the Security Unit in ensuring strict enforcement of the policy.
The Management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment as part of its ongoing repositioning and rebranding efforts.
