NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY (UNIZIK) 20TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has officially announced the schedule for the institution's 20th Convocation Ceremony.

The disclosure was made during the 242nd Senate meeting held at the Zephaniah Madubuko Auditorium. This landmark event serves as the formal graduation for students of the 2024/2025 academic session, marking a significant milestone in the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor's five-year administration.

I. CONVOCATION SCHEDULE & HIGHLIGHTS

The ceremony is designed as a four-day intensive programme:

• Date: Wednesday, June 17th – Saturday, June 20th, 2026.
• Certificate Issuance: In a commitment to administrative efficiency, graduands are expected to receive their certificates during the course of the programme.
• Honorary Awards: The event will feature the conferment of Honorary Degrees to distinguished individuals who have contributed to national development.
• Academic Honours: The university will bestow the prestigious title of Emeritus Professor on deserving retired faculty members.

II. PROPOSED NOVEMBER SPECIAL CONVOCATION

Prof. Anyaehie further informed the Senate of a tentative plan to hold a second convocation ceremony later in the year:

• Tentative Date: November 2026.
• Significance: This date is proposed to coincide with the birthday of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), the university’s namesake. This dual celebration aims to honor the legacy of the Great Zik while clearing any remaining graduation backlogs.

III. VICE-CHANCELLOR’S COMMITMENT TO WELFARE

The Vice-Chancellor used the platform to reaffirm his administration's focus on institutional stability and growth. He assured the university community that the welfare of students and staff remains the topmost priority of his five-year tenure as the Chief Executive of the institution.
