REDEEMER'S UNIVERSITY SECURES NUC APPROVAL FOR MBBS, PHARMACY, DENTAL SURGERY, ENGINEERING AND POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
Redeemer's University has achieved a major milestone following the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence several new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the highly sought-after Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme.
The approval, which takes effect from the 2026/2027 academic session, further strengthens the university's position as one of Nigeria's leading private institutions in medical education, research, and innovation.
Newly Approved Undergraduate Programmes
Following a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC, the university received approval to run the following programmes:
- MBBS Medicine and Surgery
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)
- B.Sc. Pharmacology and Therapeutics
- Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT)
- B.Eng. Mechatronic Engineering
The approval is expected to significantly expand opportunities for students seeking careers in medicine, healthcare, and engineering.
New Postgraduate Programmes
The National Universities Commission also approved several postgraduate programmes, including:
- PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Architecture
- PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Human Physiology
- PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Physiotherapy
- M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Human Anatomy
These programmes are designed to promote advanced research, professional development, and academic excellence.
Building on a Strong Healthcare Research Reputation
For over a decade, Redeemer's University has gained recognition for its contributions to public health research, particularly in the field of infectious disease genomics.
The university has collaborated with several international health organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), among others.

Reacting to the approval, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the support of the university's Visitor, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the Board of Trustees, Governing Council, staff, parents, and students.
According to him, the approval marks another step in the university's vision of becoming a leading institution for medical, scientific, and professional education in Nigeria.
