The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) is pleased to inform the entire University community, stakeholders, and the general public about the successful outcome of the October/November 2024 accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The accreditation exercise is a critical quality assurance process designed by the NUC to evaluate the standard of academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities. During this exercise, fourteen academic programmes across different faculties of the University of Abuja were carefully assessed.

We are proud to announce that thirteen out of the fourteen programmes presented for evaluation were granted full accreditation status. This outstanding result reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, quality teaching, and institutional integrity. It is also a clear testimony to the dedication of our faculty members, staff, and students, as well as the strategic leadership of the University’s management team.

The following programmes successfully retained full accreditation status from the NUC:

These results confirm UNIABUJA’s dedication to producing graduates who are well-prepared, competent, and able to contribute positively to national and global development.

Microbiology Programme – Interim Accreditation

The only programme that received interim accreditation was Microbiology. The NUC highlighted certain observations and areas for improvement in the department. The University has already commenced the process of addressing these issues and is determined to implement all necessary improvements. Our goal is to ensure that Microbiology attains full accreditation status during the next review cycle.

Why Accreditation Matters

Accreditation is important because it shows that the programmes being offered meet the national standards set for quality education. For students, this guarantees that their degrees are recognized both within and outside Nigeria. For parents and stakeholders, it is a reassurance that UNIABUJA continues to uphold strong academic values and provide a supportive environment for learning.

Appreciation

The University of Abuja appreciates the hard work and dedication of all lecturers, non-teaching staff, and students whose efforts contributed to this success. We also recognize the support of the University Governing Council and management, whose strategic policies and guidance made this achievement possible.

Final Note

The University reaffirms its commitment to sustaining this level of academic excellence and improving on areas that need attention. We will continue to invest in infrastructure, staff training, research, and innovative teaching methods that will keep UNIABUJA among the leading universities in Nigeria and Africa.
ValidInfo congratulate the entire University community on this great achievement and look forward to greater successes in the future.

Signed,
Office of the Vice-Chancellor
