AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSITY (AKSU) GETS NUC APPROVAL FOR MBBS PROGRAMME

The Akwa Ibom State University is pleased to announce that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the establishment of the full-time MBBS Medicine and Surgery programme at the University's Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, with effect from the 2026/2027 Academic Session.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated September 3, 2026, following a resource verification visit by a panel of experts appointed by the Commission to assess the human and material resources available for the proposed programme.

This development marks a significant milestone in the continued growth of the University and strengthens its mandate to provide high-quality education and professional training in the health sciences.

The University remains committed to providing the requisite academic personnel, facilities and other resources necessary for the sustained development of the programme in line with the standards prescribed by the NUC and the relevant professional regulatory bodies.

The University Management appreciates the Government of Akwa Ibom State and all stakeholders whose support contributed to the successful establishment of the programme.
