ASUU-FUAZ SUSPENDS INDEFINITE STRIKE, DIRECTS MEMBERS TO RESUME DUTIES IMMEDIATELY

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUAZ) Branch, has suspended its indefinite industrial action following significant progress in negotiations with the University Management.

The decision was reached at an Emergency Congress held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, to review the outcome of discussions with the University authorities after the union declared an indefinite strike on September 2, 2026.

Reasons for Suspending the Strike

According to the union, the suspension followed concrete commitments made by the University Management, particularly regarding the payment of outstanding entitlements owed to members.

One of the major breakthroughs recorded was the official receipt of the payment warrant covering six months of accumulated CATA (March to August 2026).

In addition, the University Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) guaranteeing that the approved funds would be disbursed to all eligible members within 10 days, effective from September 9, 2026. The union also acknowledged Management's commitment to addressing issues relating to the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).

Congress Decision

After considering the developments, members of the Emergency Congress unanimously agreed that the commitments made by the University Management demonstrated good faith and justified the suspension of the strike in the interest of academic stability.

Consequently, the union announced that the indefinite industrial action has been suspended with immediate effect from Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

All academic staff have been directed to resume their official duties without delay.

ASUU-FUAZ stated that the decision reflects the union's commitment to constructive dialogue and its desire to protect the academic calendar while ensuring that members' welfare remains a priority.

The union expressed appreciation to its members for their solidarity throughout the industrial action and urged them to continue supporting efforts aimed at improving staff welfare and institutional development.

The statement was signed by Comrade Ishaq Danbauchi Sanchi, Chairman of ASUU-FUAZ, who reaffirmed the union's commitment to defending the interests of its members through peaceful engagement and responsible unionism.
