ASUU-NAU SUSPENDS WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES, DIRECTS MEMBERS TO RESUME DUTIES
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Branch, has suspended its withdrawal of services following the payment of the complete August 2026 salary to all members.
The development comes just days after the ASUU-NAU Branch directed its members to withdraw academic and administrative services over the non-payment of their full August salary. The initial action was announced on September 7, 2026, with the union stating that the withdrawal would continue until the outstanding salary was fully paid.
COMPLETE AUGUST 2026 SALARY PAID
In a statement dated Friday, September 11, 2026, the ASUU-NAU Branch Executive confirmed that the complete August 2026 salary has now been paid to all members.
The union had earlier resolved to withdraw its services following a Congress meeting held on September 7, after members expressed concern over the incomplete payment of their August salary.
The earlier directive affected both academic and administrative responsibilities, including teaching, lectures, tutorials, practicals, supervision, marking of scripts, examinations, meetings, submission of results and other official duties.
WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES SUSPENDED
Following the confirmation of full salary payment, ASUU-NAU has directed members to immediately suspend the withdrawal of services.
The suspension takes effect from Friday, September 11, 2026.
Consequently, members of the union have been directed to return to their respective academic and administrative responsibilities.
MEMBERS DIRECTED TO RESUME DUTIES
ASUU-NAU members are expected to resume duties covering activities such as:
- Teaching and lectures
- Supervision of students
- Marking of scripts
- Submission of results
- Committee and departmental meetings
- Other academic responsibilities
- Administrative duties connected with their offices
The resumption means academic and administrative activities handled by ASUU-NAU members can proceed following the resolution of the salary-related dispute.
ASUU-NAU COMMENDS MEMBERS
The union commended its members for their resoluteness, unity and discipline throughout the period of the industrial action.
According to the branch, the solidarity and collective action of members contributed to achieving the desired outcome of the salary dispute.
The union also urged members to remain vigilant and continue to monitor developments through the official ASUU-NAU communication channels.
Members were further advised to rely on official information from the union and avoid acting on unverified reports.
BACKGROUND TO THE WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES
ASUU-NAU had on September 7, 2026, announced the withdrawal of academic and administrative services after members had not received their complete August salary.
The branch said the decision was taken in line with the standing resolution of the ASUU National Executive Council on non-payment of salaries. At the time, the union stated that the sole reason for the action was the non-payment of the complete August 2026 salary.
With the full payment now confirmed, the condition attached to the withdrawal of services has been met, leading to the suspension of the action.
STATEMENT SIGNED BY ASUU-NAU OFFICIALS
The latest statement was signed by Comrade Innocent Nnubia, Chairperson, and Comrade Osita Nnajiofor, Secretary, of the ASUU-NAU Branch.
The union said further official updates would be communicated through its established platforms as developments arise.
The latest development is expected to bring an end to the immediate disruption caused by the withdrawal of services and allow affected academic and administrative activities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University to continue.
