Final Academic Window: Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria Add/Drop Period and NELFUND Directives
Share

The Management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, wishes to remind all esteemed students that the official period for the Add/Drop exercise for the current semester is scheduled to run from Monday, 9th February to Saturday, 21st February, 2026. This critical two-week window provides the final opportunity for students to adjust their academic profiles. During this time, the student portal will be fully operational to allow for necessary amendments to course registrations and the settlement of any outstanding financial obligations.

The Add/Drop process is a vital administrative tool designed to help students refine their course selections after the initial registration phase. Whether you need to include a required elective that was previously overlooked or remove a course that does not align with your current credit load or academic capacity, this is the only legal period to effect such changes. Students are strongly advised to take immediate action upon the opening of the portal to avoid the last-minute technical traffic that often leads to registration errors or missed deadlines on the ABU portal system.

Important Notice for NELFUND Beneficiaries
A special directive has been issued for students who have applied for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). To ensure that your academic status remains secure and that you meet the university's registration deadline, Management advises all NELFUND applicants to proceed with their fee payments using alternative personal funds in the interim. The University has established a guaranteed refund mechanism for students in this category. Once the NELFUND disbursement is successfully received and reconciled by the University, the institution will process a full refund to the affected students.

This measure is intended to protect students from being barred from lectures or Continuous Assessment (CA) tests due to delayed loan processing. By paying now, you ensure that your name appears on all official class lists and that your course registration is validated before the portal closes. Waiting for the disbursement without making an initial payment puts your academic session at risk, as the system will treat any unpaid account as an incomplete registration, which could lead to a loss of the entire semester.

Portal Closure and Administrative Compliance
It is imperative to note that the Saturday, 21st February 2026 deadline is absolute. Once this period elapses, the ABU registration portal will be closed for all registration-related activities and will remain closed for the remainder of the session. There will be no further extensions granted for course additions, deletions, or late payments. Students who fail to utilize this window will be bound by their existing registration records, which could lead to "Missing Results" for courses attended but not registered, or "F" grades for registered courses that were never attended.

The University Management encourages all students to be proactive and responsible for their academic standing. Use this period to double-check your Course Registration Form (CRF) and confirm that all units are correctly captured and that your total credit load falls within the approved minimum and maximum limits. For those awaiting NELFUND, ensure you keep all receipts of your manual payments to facilitate a smooth refund process once the federal funds are credited to the University.
