In a landmark victory for the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), the National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the results of the October/November 2025 accreditation exercise. The institution recorded an overwhelming success rate, securing Full Accreditation for almost all programmes presented, most notably the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
This achievement solidifies FUTA's transition into a premier destination for medical and advanced technological education in Nigeria.
I. ACCREDITATION STATUS BY PROGRAMME
The following programmes have been granted Full Accreditation (valid for five years):
- Medical Sciences: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Physiology, Human Anatomy, and Nutrition & Dietetics.
- Engineering: Computer Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering.
- Technology & Computing: Information & Communication Technology.
- Environmental & Earth Sciences: Building, Remote Sensing, and Geo-Science Information.
> Note on Mechatronics Engineering: This programme was granted Interim Accreditation. While the programme remains recognized, it will undergo a follow-up review within two years to attain full status.
II. VALIDATION OF THE MEDICAL PROGRAMME
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, noted that the full accreditation of the MBBS programme is a significant milestone that should silence previous anxieties regarding the course's stability.
- MDCN Approval: This NUC success follows the recent "seal of approval" from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- Infrastructure: The success of the medical track was made possible through the establishment of the Teaching Hospital and the teaching medical laboratory.
