JUST IN: Minister of Education Abolishes 18-Year Admission Age Requirement
Dr. Tunji Alausa, the new Minister of Education, has eliminated the 18-year age limit for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. He also indicated plans to review the nation's education policy.
However, Alausa confirmed that the Federal Government's decision to invalidate over 22,700 degree certificates from unrecognized universities in Togo and Benin Republic remains unchanged.
During his inaugural press conference in Abuja, Alausa emphasized the importance of practical education in addressing Nigeria's unemployment crisis. He noted that universities should not simply produce graduates without job opportunities. The government aims to partner with the private sector to enhance student training and development.
Additionally, Alausa announced plans to empower agricultural universities to adopt commercial farming practices, addressing food insecurity in the country.
