No Salary, No Peace: SSANU Stands Firm on Strike!

Mohammed Ibrahim, president of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has reaffirmed that the ongoing strike, launched in conjunction with the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), will continue until their demands are addressed.

The unions initiated an indefinite strike on Monday due to the non-payment of four months' salary arrears. Despite government attempts to mediate, Ibrahim emphasized that the strike will persist until they receive payment.

In an interview with Channels TV's Politics Today, Ibrahim stated, "This isn’t about meetings; we want payment. If the government directs the payment, we can suspend the strike within 24 hours." He added that past assurances from officials have not led to action, reinforcing that the strike remains indefinite until they receive the necessary alerts.

The strike has significantly disrupted activities across public universities in Nigeria, resulting in closed classes and facilities.
