LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES BAN ON ILLEGAL POS OPERATIONS AND HAWKING ON CAMPUS
The management of Lagos State University has issued a strong warning against the increasing rate of unauthorised Point of Sale (POS) operations and indiscriminate hawking activities within the university campus.
According to the institution, several individuals, mostly students, have converted different parts of the campus into illegal trading points, creating environmental and security concerns within the university environment.
AREAS AFFECTED BY THE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES
The university identified several major locations where the activities have become widespread, including:
- Iba Gate Road
- PPL Gate axis
- AP Filling Station/VIO Road
- Classroom environments
- Event centres
Management revealed that while some individuals operate only POS services, others combine such operations with the sale of consumables and various items.
MANAGEMENT EXPRESSES CONCERN
The university noted that the development:
- Causes congestion on campus
- Obstructs movement in strategic areas
- Creates environmental and security risks
- Undermines the standard of a world-class institution
As part of efforts to restore orderliness, the university disclosed that enforcement operations have already commenced, with several POS machines and goods confiscated from violators.
APPROVED DIRECTIVES BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
Following the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, the university announced the following directives:
- All unauthorised POS operations and hawking activities on campus are strictly prohibited.
- No individual is allowed to display POS services or hawk goods outside officially approved market locations within faculties and centres.
- Selling or displaying goods around classroom corridors, offices, and classroom environments is strictly banned.
- Approved vendors must shut down operations by 6:00 PM daily.
- Defaulters risk:
* Confiscation of goods
* Payment of fines
* Additional disciplinary actions as determined by management
STRICT ENFORCEMENT TO CONTINUE
The university urged members of the campus community to avoid engaging in or patronising illegal trading activities.
Management further warned that the Security Unit will continue strict monitoring and enforcement of the directives across the campus.
According to the institution, the measures are necessary to maintain:
- A safe campus environment
- Proper orderliness
- Conducive conditions for teaching, learning, and research
The university reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the standards and integrity of the institution.
