The approved calendar is structured into two main semesters, each comprising registration periods, lectures, breaks, and examinations.
First Semester Activities
The first semester begins with registration activities, which are essential for both new and returning students to regularize their academic status.
- Registration for Fresh Students:
Monday, 23rd March – Sunday, 5th April, 2026 (2 Weeks)
Newly admitted students are expected to complete all admission formalities, documentation, and course registration within this period. This is a critical stage that confirms their official entry into the University. - Registration for Returning Students:
Monday, 20th April – Sunday, 26th April, 2026 (1 Week)
Returning students are required to complete their course registration and settle all necessary fees within this timeframe to remain in good academic standing. - Matriculation Ceremony:
Tuesday, 28th April, 2026 (1 Day)
This marks the formal induction of fresh students into Northwest University Kano. It is a significant academic tradition where students officially become members of the University community. - Orientation Programme for Fresh Students:
Thursday, 30th April – Saturday, 9th May, 2026 (10 Days)
The orientation programme is designed to familiarize new students with the University’s rules, academic structure, facilities, and culture. It also provides guidance on how to succeed academically and socially within the institution. - First Semester Lectures (Part 1):
Monday, 11th May – Saturday, 20th June, 2026 (6 Weeks)

Monday, 22nd June – Saturday, 27th June, 2026 (1 Week)

Lectures resume and continue, covering the remaining course content before examinations. - First Semester Examinations:

Saturday, 29th August – Saturday, 5th September, 2026 (1 Week)
A short break is provided after examinations before the commencement of the second semester.
Second Semester Activities
The second semester continues academic work and completes the session’s curriculum.
- Second Semester Lectures (Part 1):
Monday, 7th September – Saturday, 17th October, 2026 (6 Weeks)
Lectures begin for the second semester, and students are expected to maintain consistency and discipline in their studies. - Add/Drop Period:
Monday, 14th September – Saturday, 19th September, 2026 (1 Week)
During this period, students can adjust their course registrations by adding or dropping courses where necessary, in line with academic regulations. - Mid-Semester Break:
Monday, 19th October – Saturday, 24th October, 2026 (1 Week)
This break provides students with an opportunity to rest and review their academic progress. - Second Semester Lectures (Part 2):
Monday, 26th October – Saturday, 28th November, 2026 (5 Weeks)
Lectures resume for the final phase of the semester, leading up to examinations. - Second Semester Examinations:
Monday, 30th November – Saturday, 19th December, 2026 (3 Weeks)
This marks the final academic assessment for the session. Students are encouraged to prepare thoroughly to achieve excellent results.
End of Academic Session
The 2025/2026 academic session will officially come to an end on Saturday, 19th December, 2026. This will be followed by a 12-week vacation period, allowing students to rest before the commencement of a new academic year.
The next academic session, 2026/2027, is scheduled to begin on Monday, 8th March, 2027. Students are expected to resume promptly and continue their academic programmes without delay.
