The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) is thrilled to announce a historic milestone following the release of the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation results.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, shared the results on Thursday, April 23, 2026, during an emergency Senate meeting at the Calabar campus. The outcome reveals that nearly all programmes presented during the November/December 2025 exercise achieved the highest possible status.
I. FULLY ACCREDITED PROGRAMMES (2026–2031)
The following programmes successfully secured Full Accreditation, affirming their quality and adherence to national standards:
- Education & Social Sciences: Human Kinetics and Health Education, Economics, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology.
- Management Sciences: Banking and Finance, Entrepreneurship Studies, Marketing.
- Communication & Technology: Broadcasting, Journalism and Media Studies, Information Systems, Software Engineering.
- Environmental & Applied Sciences: Urban and Regional Planning, Forestry and Wildlife, Animal and Environmental Biology, Industrial Chemistry, Plant Science Biology.
Note: The Department of Childhood Education was granted Interim Accreditation.
II. BREAKING HISTORIC BARRIERS
This exercise is particularly significant for the Departments of Urban and Regional Planning and Forestry and Wildlife, both of which had faced two previous accreditation denials. Their transition to Full Accreditation marks a restoration of their academic standing and the ability to admit new students.
III. TOP PERFORMING DEPARTMENTS
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted exceptional scores achieved by the leading departments in this exercise:
- Plant Science Biology: 93.7% (Highest Score)
- Animal and Environmental Biology: 92.9%
- Entrepreneurship Studies: 91.2%
IV. RECOGNITION AND REWARDS
In recognition of exemplary leadership, the Vice-Chancellor gave special commendation to Dr. Samuel Osim, Head of the Department of Plant Science Biology. As a reward for securing the university's highest score, the Management has pledged:
- A full upgrade of the Department’s Laboratory Facilities.
- A complete furnishing of the HOD’s office to their specific taste.
- The provision of a personal laptop for the HOD.

This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of staff and students under the leadership of Professor Francisca Bassey. It signals a major leap forward in the university’s mission to provide globally competitive and quality-assured education.
