University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID): Revised Official Working Hours for Ramadan 2026

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has officially adjusted its administrative working hours to accommodate staff and students observing the holy month of Ramadan. This directive, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, is intended to alleviate the physical challenges of fasting and allow for greater spiritual focus during this significant period.

As per circular R/ADM/ESTABS. 154/Vol. V, issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, these temporary changes take immediate effect. The institution aims to ensure that academic and administrative operations continue smoothly while recognizing the unique needs of the university community during the fast.

Revised Schedule of Office Hours
The new schedule significantly reduces the afternoon work duration to ensure staff can return home in a timely manner. The approved hours are as follows:

Mondays to Thursdays: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Fridays: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Implementation and Compliance
The university management, through the Acting Director of Human Resources, ASC Amina M. Abdullahi (Mrs.), has clarified that this arrangement is temporary. All units and departments are expected to revert to the standard 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Monday–Thursday) and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Friday) schedule immediately upon the conclusion of the Ramadan period.

Essential services—including University Security, Health Services (UMHS), and the Maintenance Unit—will maintain their regular shift rotations to ensure the safety and continuous functionality of the campus infrastructure. Staff members in these units should consult their specific heads of departments for any internal shift adjustments.

Academic Calendar Context: 2025/2026 Session
This adjustment coincides with the active phase of the First Semester 2025/2026 Academic Session. Having resumed academic activities on February 2, 2026, the university is currently in the middle of its lecture period. The revised hours are expected to minimize fatigue for both lecturing staff and students, supporting the university's goal of maintaining academic excellence without compromising the health of its members.

The University Administration, through the HR Director, extended a message of goodwill to all Muslim brothers and sisters, wishing the entire community a "Happy and Rewardful Ramadan." Students and staff are encouraged to complete their administrative filings—such as the 2026 UTME registration or departmental clearances—within the new 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. window.
