33RD MATRICULATION CEREMONY – BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY, MAKURDI (BSUM)

The Management of Benue State University, Makurdi, is pleased to announce the schedule and administrative guidelines for the 33rd Matriculation Ceremony for fresh undergraduate students of the 2025/2026 Academic Session. This ceremony marks the formal induction and official admission of all newly enrolled students into the University.

I. CEREMONY SCHEDULE

The University has finalized the following arrangements for the historic event:

  • Date: Wednesday, 22nd April, 2026
  • Time: 9:00 AM Prompt
  • Venue: New Convocation Square

II. ORIENTATION AND LECTURE-FREE DAYS

To adequately prepare fresh students for university life, a mandatory orientation exercise has been scheduled:

  • Orientation Dates: Monday, 20th and Tuesday, 21st April, 2026.
  • Venue: New Convocation Square.
  • Lecture Status: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (20th–22nd April) are declared lecture-free days strictly for all fresh undergraduate students.

III. MATRICULATION GOWN COLLECTION AND RETURN

Fresh students are required to follow these steps to secure their academic regalia:

PAYMENT AND COLLECTION

  • Payment: A non-refundable fee of Two Thousand Naira (₦2,000.00) must be paid into either:
    * Fidelity Bank Plc: 5030023693
    * Zenith Bank: 1011136506
  • Issuance: Faculty Officers will begin issuing gowns on Friday, 17th April, 2026, upon presentation of the bank receipt.

RETURN AND PENALTIES

  • Return Deadline: Gowns must be returned to Faculty Officers on or before Friday, 1st May, 2026.
  • Late Return Fine: Failure to return gowns by the deadline will attract a penalty of ₦500.00 per day, payable to the Bursary Department.

IV. MANDATORY DOCUMENTS FOR STUDENTS

All fresh students must visit the University Portal (www.bsum.edu.ng) to download the following items:

  1. The Matriculation Oath
  2. The University Anthem

Students are required to bring printed copies of these documents to both the Orientation and Matriculation ceremonies.

V. DIRECTIVES TO STAFF AND SENATE MEMBERS

PROCESSION AND ATTENDANCE

  • Senate Members: You are requested to report at the New Convocation Square by 9:00 AM. The academic procession will begin promptly at 10:00 AM.
  • Staff Gowns: All Senate members should detail a staff member to collect their academic gowns from the Academic Office.
  • Administrative Duty: Deans and Heads of Department must liaise with ICT staff to ensure all qualified candidates in their respective programmes are properly registered before the ceremony.
