The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, has officially announced the schedule for its 17th Matriculation Ceremony. This ceremony serves as the formal induction of fresh students into the university community for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. It is a mandatory event for all newly admitted scholars, including those in the UTME, Direct Entry (DE), and Part-Time programs, as well as students from Affiliate Institutions and the Institute for Distance Learning (IDL).
Ceremonial Schedule and Logistics
The university has finalized arrangements to ensure a smooth transition for the "Freshmen" class. Students and parents are advised to adhere strictly to the following timeline:
Date: Saturday, 28th February 2026
Time: 10:00 AM Prompt
Venue: University Convocation Arena/Auditorium, Rumuolumeni Campus
All matriculating students are required to be at the venue by 9:00 AM to participate in the academic procession. Participation in the procession is a key requirement, as the ceremony officially begins with the entry of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchukwu, and the university’s principal officers.
Mandatory Pre-Matriculation Requirements
To be eligible for the matriculation oath and to be formally recognized as a student of IAUE, all freshmen must satisfy the following conditions:
- Completion of Registration and Fee Payment
The deadline for all course registration and payment of school fees for the 2025/2026 session was Saturday, 14th February 2026. Matriculation numbers are only assigned to students who have fully cleared their financial obligations and finalized their online registration through the university portal. - Collection of Matriculation Gowns
Students are required to pay the prescribed fee for the hiring of academic gowns.- Regular Students: Gowns are to be collected from respective Faculty Officers.
- Part-Time Students: Gowns are collected from the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) at the St. John's Diobu Campus.
- IDL Students: Gowns are to be collected directly from the Institute for Distance Learning.
- Signing of the Matriculation Register
The Matriculation Register is a legal document of the university. Only students who present evidence of gown payment and have completed their clearance will be allowed to sign the register. Any student who fails to sign the register is not legally recognized as a student of the university, regardless of admission status.

Post-Matriculation Directives
Following the ceremony, all academic gowns must be returned to the points of collection in good condition. Late returns typically attract a daily penalty fee. Furthermore, all matriculated students who have completed their registration must report to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to be captured for their permanent Student Identity Cards.
