The Management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has formally announced a temporary modification to the institution’s official working hours following the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. In a circular issued on Wednesday, 18th February 2026—marking the first day of Ramadan 1446AH—the university outlined new administrative timelines designed to support staff and students during this period of spiritual devotion. This adjustment reflects the university's commitment to the welfare of its community, allowing for a balance between professional responsibilities and the physical demands of the fast.

Revised Working Schedule and Duration
The approved changes to the university’s daily operations took effect immediately upon the issuance of the memorandum. For the duration of the holy month, all administrative offices across the Old Campus, New Campus, and the AKTH clinical site will adhere to the following closing times. From Mondays to Thursdays, the university will close at 3:00 pm, providing staff and students ample time to return home for Iftar. On Fridays, the closing time remains fixed at 1:00 pm to facilitate attendance at the Jumu’at congregational prayers. Normal working hours, which typically run until 4:00 pm or later, are expected to resume immediately following the Eid-el-Fitr public holidays.

Directives on Official Meetings and Refreshments
In a notable move to maintain the sanctity of the fasting period, the memorandum signed by the university administration stated that no refreshments will be served during any official university meetings held throughout Ramadan. This directive applies to all Senate meetings, departmental boards, and committee sittings. By implementing this rule, the university ensures that the environment remains respectful of those observing the fast while maintaining the continuity of essential administrative decision-making processes.

While administrative hours have been shortened, students are reminded that academic activities, including lectures and ongoing registrations, will continue within the adjusted timeframe. The university library and ICT centers will remain accessible to support students preparing for their assessments, though their closing hours may also be synchronized with the 3:00 pm directive. Students are advised to plan their administrative tasks—such as fee payments or document processing—early in the day to ensure they are attended to before the daily closure.
