NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL (NECO) – EXTENSION OF 2026 BECE NORMAL REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The Registrar/Chief Executive has formally approved a strategic extension for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) normal registration period. This decision follows formal representations made by State Coordinators and aims to accommodate the registration requirements of newly accredited BECE institutions.
This extension provides a final window for schools to register their candidates without incurring additional financial penalties.
REVISED REGISTRATION TIMELINES AND PENALTIES
All stakeholders, including school principals and examination officers, are directed to take note of the following critical dates:
- Extension of Normal Registration: Valid until 12:00 Midnight, Saturday, 4th April, 2026.
- Commencement of Late Registration: Effective from Sunday, 5th April, 2026.
- Late Registration Surcharge: A mandatory fee of Five Thousand Naira (N5,000.00) per candidate will be applied to all registrations submitted after the April 4th deadline.
- Final System Closure: The registration portal will be officially deactivated at 11:59 PM, Wednesday, 8th April, 2026.
DIRECTIVES TO BECE SCHOOLS (NEW AND EXISTING)
The Council issues the following operational guidelines for all participating institutions:
- Optimal Utilization: All BECE-approved schools—specifically those recently accredited—are urged to utilize this window optimally to ensure every eligible candidate is captured.
- Data Accuracy: Ensure that all candidate biographies, subjects, and institutional data are double-checked for accuracy before final submission, as the system moves toward total closure.
- Finality of Deadlines: Management emphasizes that there will be STRICTLY NO FURTHER EXTENSION beyond the final closure on Wednesday, 8th April, 2026.
ADMINISTRATIVE COMPLIANCE
School authorities are reminded that the timely registration of candidates is a prerequisite for the allocation of examination centers and the logistics of materials distribution. The Council will not be held liable for any candidate disenfranchised due to a school’s failure to meet these stipulated deadlines.
CONCLUSION: ACT BEFORE THE DEADLINE
We encourage all school administrators to complete their uploads immediately to avoid potential network congestion as the deadline approaches.
