The management of University of Lagos (UNILAG) has issued an official statement addressing widespread concerns following the earlier announcement by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNILAG Chapter.
According to the university, it has received numerous calls, messages, and inquiries from members of the university community and the general public regarding reports of a possible strike action by the union.
UNILAG Not on Strike
In its clarification, the management emphasized that University of Lagos is not currently on strike.
The institution explained that the industrial action initially planned by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNILAG Chapter, which was scheduled to begin on *\Wednesday, March 11, 2026, was suspended on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, before it could take effect.
This means that the proposed strike did not commence, and normal academic activities at the university have continued without interruption.
Academic Activities Ongoing
The university confirmed that academic operations across the institution remain active. This includes the First Semester Examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session, which are currently taking place as scheduled.
Students are therefore expected to continue participating in lectures, examinations, and other academic activities without concern about disruptions.
Issues Being Addressed by Management
While acknowledging the concerns raised by the ASUU chapter, the management of University of Lagos stated that the issues are currently being addressed through ongoing discussions and consultations.
The university explained that efforts are being made to resolve the matters raised by the union within the available financial and administrative resources of the institution.
Management also assured that it remains committed to maintaining a constructive dialogue with relevant stakeholders in order to reach a sustainable resolution that benefits both staff and students.
Appeal for Cooperation
The university management expressed appreciation to members of the university community, stakeholders, and the general public for their patience, understanding, and support during the situation.
It also appealed for continued cooperation while discussions with the relevant parties continue.
According to the institution, maintaining a stable and productive academic environment remains a top priority, and all efforts are being directed toward ensuring the welfare of staff and students.
