UNIBEN Provides Update on First Semester Examination for 2025/2026 Session

The management of University of Benin has issued an important update regarding the First Semester examinations for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The decision followed a virtual emergency meeting of Provosts, Deans, and Directors held on Sunday, 15th March, 2026, where the university management reviewed the current status of student registration across the institution.

Observation on Student Registration

During the meeting, it was observed that there is a significant disparity between the number of students who have paid school charges and those who have completed their registration. According to the report presented at the meeting, the ratio currently stands at 3:1, indicating that a large number of students who have paid their fees are yet to complete their registration process.

Following the deliberations, the university management reached several key decisions aimed at ensuring that academic activities continue smoothly while addressing the situation.

Examination Eligibility

The university has announced that all students will be permitted to participate in the First Semester examinations. However, Faculties and Schools have been directed to implement strict authentication measures to properly identify eligible students and prevent any form of examination malpractice.

Registration and School Charges

The management further clarified that no student will be prevented from writing the First Semester examinations due to failure to pay school charges or complete the registration process.

This decision was made to ensure that students are not unduly disadvantaged while efforts continue to resolve issues related to registration compliance.

Identification Guidelines for Fresh Students

Special identification guidelines have also been issued for newly admitted students. Fresh students who will be using OMR answer sheets during the examinations are required to shade their Matriculation Numbers as a means of identification.

However, those who have not yet received their Matriculation Numbers are instructed to leave the first column of the matriculation number box blank and instead shade their unique Student Identification Numbers (Student IDs).

Members of the university community have been duly informed of these decisions, and students are encouraged to prepare adequately and participate in the examinations without any form of fear or hesitation.
