The Management of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ)—formerly the Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria—has officially announced a temporary adjustment to the institution’s official working hours. This directive follows the formal announcement by the Sultan of Sokoto regarding the sighting of the new crescent moon on Tuesday, 17th February 2026.

In a statement issued by the university administration, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, extended his felicitations to the Muslim Ummah within the university community. Professor Bunkure, who was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the upgraded university in 2025, urged staff and students to utilize this sacred period for spiritual devotion and to pray for the peace and progress of the nation.

Revised Ramadan Schedule
The new working hours became effective on Wednesday, 18th February 2026, and will remain in place throughout the fasting period. The schedule is designed to alleviate the physical demands on fasting staff while ensuring that the university’s essential administrative and academic services remain operational.

Day of the Week Resumption Time Closing Time
Mondays to Thursdays 9:00 AM 2:00 PM
Fridays 9:00 AM 1:00 PM
The university confirmed that normal working hours (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) will resume immediately after the Eid-el-Fitr public holiday.

Directives on Discipline and Service Delivery
Despite the shortened hours, the university management has emphasized that the "quality of service must not diminish." Staff members are expected to be at their duty posts promptly at 9:00 AM. The Director of Information and Protocol, Rakiya Sidi, noted that late arrivals or unauthorized absence from duty will be documented for disciplinary action.

Specifically, the following units are expected to maintain full support for students during these hours:

The Bursary and ICT Units: To facilitate the ongoing registration for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The University Library: To provide a conducive environment for student research and study.

Security and Health Services: These essential units will continue to operate on their standard 24-hour shift basis to ensure the safety and well-being of the campus community.

Academic and Registration Continuity
Students are reminded that the 2025/2026 academic calendar is currently in full swing. The registration portal for new (100L and 200L) and returning students is currently active, with the final extension window closing on Wednesday, 4th March 2026.

Students who have not yet activated their institutional email accounts at the Amb. Jidda Baba Ahmad CBT Centre are urged to do so within the adjusted 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM window. As previously announced, this email is mandatory for accessing e-learning platforms and receiving official university correspondence.

Welfare and Best Wishes
The University Management encourages all members of the FUEZ community to maintain the spirit of patience, empathy, and charity that defines Ramadan. Professor Bunkure enjoined the Muslim faithful to "devote themselves to worship and offer charity to the poor and needy to maximize the rewards of this month."
