Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti: Maiden Matriculation Ceremony
The Management of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, has officially scheduled its Maiden Matriculation Ceremony for the pioneer students of the 2025/2026 academic session. This historic event marks the formal induction of the first-ever cohort of students into this specialized institution, which was established by the Federal Government in early 2025 to bridge the gap in technology and environmental sustainability education.
The ceremony will be presided over by the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor James Olugbenga Aribisala, a renowned expert in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

A Milestone for the Pioneer "FUTES" Students
As a pioneer institution, FUTES is starting its academic journey with four key faculties designed to meet 21st-century global challenges: Engineering, Computer Science, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. This matriculation ceremony is not just a formal event but a celebration of the "First Generation" of students who will set the academic and cultural tone for the university.
Important Note on Terminology
Note: While the initial announcement may use the term "Convocation," in the Nigerian university system, the maiden ceremony for newly admitted students is strictly a Matriculation Ceremony. Convocation ceremonies are reserved for the graduation of students and the awarding of degrees, which for this pioneer set, will occur in approximately four to five years upon completion of their studies.
Instructions for Matriculants
All pioneer students are expected to adhere to the following directives to ensure a hitch-free ceremony:
Registration Completion: Ensure all online screening and departmental clearances are finalized on the before the ceremony.
Academic Gowns: Information regarding the collection of matriculation gowns will be communicated through the various Faculty Officers. Students are generally expected to be dressed in formal academic attire under their gowns.
Procession: Students must be at the venue by 10:30 a.m. to join the academic procession. Late entry into the auditorium may not be permitted once the Vice-Chancellor’s procession has commenced.
