JAMB ADVISORY: ADMISSION OUTSIDE CAPS IS ILLEGAL
Share

The *Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)* has issued a stern re-affirmation regarding the legitimacy of admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The Board maintains that *any admission offered outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is illegal, null, and void.*

I. THE CAPS MANDATE

The Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) was designed to ensure transparency, merit, and credibility in the admission process. According to JAMB:

  • Official Recognition: Only admissions processed and approved via CAPS are recognized by the Federal Government and relevant professional bodies.
  • Institutional Compliance: All tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education) are strictly mandated to upload their recommended lists to CAPS for approval.

II. RISKS AND CONSEQUENCES

JAMB has outlined severe repercussions for both institutions and candidates who attempt to bypass the official system:

For Candidates:

  • Loss of Validity: Admissions not appearing on CAPS will not be recognized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization or professional registration.
  • Non-Regularization: There may be no window for "Regularization" for illegal admissions, leading to the eventual loss of academic years.
  • Disqualification: Candidates are advised to never accept an admission offer—even if issued by a school—until it is visible and accepted on their JAMB CAPS portal.

For Institutions:

  • Sanctions: Institutions found bypassing the system face heavy administrative sanctions from the Board.
  • Prosecution: The Board warned that involvement in "under-the-table" admissions may lead to legal prosecution of the officers involved.

III. ACTION STEPS FOR CANDIDATES

To ensure your admission is valid, follow these steps:

  1. Monitor CAPS: Regularly log in to your JAMB profile via efacility.jamb.gov.ng.
    1. Check Admission Status: Navigate to the "Check Admission Status" tab and access CAPS.
    2. Accept or Reject: If offered admission, you must click "Accept" to finalize the process. Printing the JAMB Admission Letter is the final proof of a legal admission.
