Federal College of Education, Jama’are Announces Vacancies for Principal Officer Positions

The Governing Council of Federal College of Education, Jama’are invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for key principal officer positions in the institution. Established in 2021, the College is gradually developing into a reputable tertiary institution committed to training qualified teachers and advancing educational excellence in Nigeria.

The Council is therefore seeking competent, experienced, and visionary professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the institution. The available positions and their requirements are outlined below.

Available Positions

1. Provost

The Provost serves as the Chief Executive, Administrative, and Accounting Officer of the College. The office holder is responsible for providing overall academic leadership and ensuring the smooth running of all administrative and professional activities within the institution. The Provost also oversees policy implementation, strategic planning, staff development, and the advancement of teaching and research in the College.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in a field relevant to the academic programmes offered by the College.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years post-qualification teaching or research experience in a higher institution. The applicant must currently hold the position of Chief Lecturer with at least five years of cognate experience in that rank.

Additional Requirements:
Applicants must be registered members of a recognized professional association in education and must possess a valid teaching qualification, such as the National Certificate in Education (NCE) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

2. Bursar

The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the College and is responsible for the management and supervision of the institution’s financial affairs. The office holder oversees financial planning, budgeting, accounting procedures, revenue management, and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability in the College’s financial operations.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a good honours degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy or Finance from a recognized institution.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 21 years of cognate experience in financial management within a reputable organization or institution. Applicants must also have served as a Deputy Bursar on CONTEDISS 15 or its equivalent.

Professional Certification:
Candidates must be members of a recognized professional accounting body, such as ICAN, ANAN, or any other approved accounting organization.

3. College Librarian

The College Librarian is responsible for the administration and coordination of all library services within the institution. The position involves overseeing the development of library resources, managing library staff, ensuring the provision of modern information services, and supporting teaching, learning, and research activities within the College.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a good honours degree with a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a recognized university. Possession of a Ph.D. in Library Science or related discipline will be considered an added advantage.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 18 years of relevant professional experience in library administration. However, applicants with a Ph.D. may qualify with 12 years of experience.

Registration:
Applicants must be registered members of the recognized professional library body in Nigeria.

General Requirements and Conditions

Age Limit:
All applicants must not be above 59 years of age at the time of assuming office.

Tenure:
Each position carries a single tenure of five (5) years only, in accordance with the rules governing federal colleges of education in Nigeria.

Vision Statement:
Applicants are required to submit a vision and mission statement outlining their plans for the development of the College. The statement must not exceed two pages and should clearly highlight strategies for academic growth, institutional advancement, and improved service delivery.

Deadline for Submission

All applications must reach the Office of the Registrar not later than six (6) weeks from the date of publication, which is March 12, 2026.
