The administration emphasizes that the college maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards indecent dressing, inappropriate behavior, and any acts that undermine the values and decorum of the institution. Any student found in violation of these rules will be subjected to strict disciplinary measures in accordance with the severity and frequency of the offense.
The college has outlined specific categories of prohibited behaviors and their corresponding sanctions to ensure clarity and compliance among students. For backless clothing, the disciplinary progression is as follows: a first offense will attract advice from the college authorities, a second offense will result in a formal warning, and a third offense may lead to suspension from the institution for one semester. This approach emphasizes progressive discipline while providing students the opportunity to correct their behavior.
For female students wearing short dresses, short skirts, or bum shorts, the procedure mirrors that of backless clothing: first offense attracts advice, second offense results in a warning, and a third offense will incur one semester suspension. Similarly, sagging of trousers by male students is treated seriously, with advice, warning, and potential suspension as consequences for repeated offenses.
The administration also addressed unacceptable hairstyles. Male students with artificial dreadlocks, excessive braiding, or extreme weaving styles will face advice, warning, and suspension respectively. For hairstyles deemed inappropriate, including colored hair, cowries, or extreme fashion hairstyles, the same disciplinary framework applies. Additionally, male students wearing earrings or multiple facial piercings—including nose, mouth, or eye rings—will be subject to advice, warning, or suspension depending on the recurrence of the behavior.
For crop tops, off-shoulder clothes, and micro mini dresses, students will face the same progressive disciplinary actions. The display of tattoos is similarly regulated, with advice, warning, and suspension applied as necessary. Wearing face caps unnecessarily and other fashion choices that undermine professional appearance are prohibited and will attract disciplinary measures.
Beyond clothing and personal appearance, the college also highlighted inappropriate conduct related to campus activities. Students bringing babies to classrooms or hostels may face hostel eviction, warnings, or suspension. Similarly, bringing cars with tinted glass is strictly prohibited; violations will result in impoundment of the vehicle, suspension of the student, and a mandatory ₦20,000 fine for the release of the car. Public displays of affection are not tolerated and are subject to advice, warning, and suspension.
Other prohibited behaviors include wearing dark glasses without reason, using bathroom slippers in classrooms, wearing extremely tight or elastic clothing, and wearing pyjamas or sleepwear in academic areas. All these behaviors are considered inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of students at YABATECH.
The college administration issued an important advisory urging all students to dress modestly, maintain a professional appearance, and uphold the dignity and values of Yaba College of Technology. Students are expected to respect these rules at all times, ensuring that their conduct reflects positively on the institution.
