FUTA PROMOTES 36 ACADEMICS TO PROFESSORIAL RANK

The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Akure, Professor Adenike Oladiji, has charged newly appointed professors of the University to continually expand their intellectual capacity, uphold academic dignity, and contribute meaningfully to national development and societal progress.

Professor Oladiji gave the charge during a special ceremony held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, to honour newly promoted professors in recognition of their remarkable achievements in scholarship, research, teaching, mentorship, and service to humanity.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor described the rank of professor as the highest level attainable in academia, emphasizing that it comes with enormous responsibility, leadership expectations, and societal influence.

According to her, the development of any nation is closely tied to the quality of its educational system and the contributions of scholars and researchers who continuously provide solutions to societal challenges.

She urged the newly appointed professors to remain versatile and informed beyond their areas of specialization, stressing that professors are respected voices in society who must be capable of contributing to discussions across multiple fields and national issues.

Professor Oladiji further encouraged them to sustain excellence in teaching, research, innovation, mentorship, and community service while supporting the growth and administration of the university system.

In his remarks, the Registrar of the University, Mr. Charles Adeleye, described the promotion as a reward for years of resilience, dedication, sacrifice, and outstanding service within the academic profession.

He noted that the recognition ceremony has become an important tradition within FUTA, established to celebrate academic excellence and inspire younger academics to strive for greater accomplishments.

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted professors, Professor Bukola Adetola expressed appreciation to the University management, colleagues, family members, and well-wishers for the honour bestowed on them.

She described the promotion as both a recognition of hard work and a call to greater commitment toward scholarship, mentorship, research excellence, and service to humanity.

Professor Adetola also assured the University management that the newly appointed professors would continue contributing positively to the advancement of the institution and the larger society.
