MANDATORY 75% ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT FOR EXAMINATIONS
Share

The Department of Applied Geophysics at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) formally notifies all students—including both Regular and FNG cohorts—that a policy of strict enforcement regarding lecture attendance will be implemented with immediate effect this semester.

This measure is a direct response to the increasing trend of academic indiscipline, absenteeism, and disregard for University authority, which has negatively impacted student performance and contributed to avoidable failure rates.

CORE ATTENDANCE POLICY AND CONSEQUENCES

In alignment with University regulations, the following rules will be enforced without exception:

  • The 75% Threshold: Any student who records less than 75% attendance in any given course will NOT be permitted to sit for the final examination in that course.
  • Invalidation of Results: In the event that a student is mistakenly allowed to write an examination despite having inadequate attendance, such results will be withheld and will not be processed.
  • Zero Concession Policy: No appeals or concessions will be entertained on the grounds of ignorance or negligence.

REQUIRED ACTIONS FOR STUDENTS

To ensure compliance and eligibility for examinations, all students are strongly advised to:

  1. Consistent Participation: Attend all scheduled lectures, laboratory sessions, and departmental academic activities regularly.
    1. Documentation: Ensure your presence is properly documented on the official attendance registers during every contact hour.
    2. Personal Responsibility: Take full responsibility for monitoring your own attendance status throughout the semester to ensure you remain above the mandatory threshold.

RATIONALE FOR ENFORCEMENT

This directive has become necessary to restore academic rigor and professional discipline within the department. Regular attendance is a prerequisite for mastering the course content and is a key factor in reducing the high failure rates associated with chronic absenteeism.

CONCLUSION: A CALL TO ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE

All students must treat this notice with the utmost importance. The Department is committed to your success, but that success begins with your consistent presence in the classroom.

Thank you.
